Bruce DeGroot serves as counsel in the firm’s St. Louis and Columbia, Mo., offices. He is a representative in the Missouri State Legislature, representing the 101st District in Chesterfield.
Rep. DeGroot has been a practicing attorney since graduating from the Saint Louis University School of Law in 1993. He started his career with Brown & James and represents clients in civil litigation, insurance defense, and workers’ compensation matters.
Since serving in the legislature, Rep. DeGroot’s focus has been on tort reform. He sponsored Missouri H.B. 339. This bill significantly reduces abuse of RSMO 537.065 agreements between plaintiffs’ attorneys and unrepresented defendants. It will save Missourians millions of dollars in insurance premiums and hundreds of millions in frivolous judgments. The bill was signed by Gov. Greitens and went into effect in August 2017.
