Shelby is an Associate attorney with a focus in healthcare and medical malpractice litigation. She is passionate about representing healthcare providers, especially in light of all they do for our community. Shelby also has legal and clinical experience in the healthcare industry. In her capacity as a law clerk with UK Healthcare’s Risk Management team, she gained a greater understanding of medical malpractice, healthcare regulations and compliance, and civil litigation.
Prior to attending law school, Shelby obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Kentucky with a focus in healthcare sciences. Her medical education included training in phlebotomy, laboratory services, and nutrition and dietetics. Her clinical observations included rotations in the NICU, Labor and Delivery, ICU, and general surgery.
Shelby’s litigation experience involves interning for the Honorable Karen Caldwell, U.S. District Judge. Her work in the judge’s chambers included intensive research for her the cases on the judge’s docket. She was also tasked with intensive writing projects, including research memorandums and drafting various types of pleadings. In this role she was able to observe all aspects of civil and criminal litigation in federal court. Additionally, Shelby clerked at English, Lucas, Priest, & Owsley in Bowling Green, Kentucky, where she also gained valuable experience in litigation, with a focus on healthcare and medical malpractice.
Shelby is originally from Scottsville, Kentucky, a rural town located in south-central Kentucky. She graduated from Allen County Scottsville High School and went on to attend the University of Kentucky where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition. She also attended the University of Kentucky College of Law where she graduated in May 2020. While in law school, she focused her coursework in healthcare and litigation.
She is passionate about advocating for the representation of women in the law, which is exhibited in her active membership and leadership in Women’s Law Caucus, professional women’s associations, and mentoring programs. Her pursuits are in furtherance of the quote “empowered women empower women.”
When not in the office, Shelby enjoys Rook, house and furniture restoration, playing with her King Charles Cavalier Spaniel named Winston, and cheering on the University of Kentucky wildcats.
