The presentation featured different styles of cross-examinations that were presented to focus groups to measure the effectiveness of the distinct styles. Brad Hansmann presented before the Springfield Claims Association. Brad’s topic addressed the case of Akers v. Auto-Owners Insurance Company, in which the District Court awarded Auto-Owners its attorney fees and costs on a reverse bad faith theory based on the insured’s misconduct.

Mr. Swift was a co-presenter of the topic “Insightful Jury Selection in the Wake of Ferguson, Missouri and Charleston, South Carolina.” Mr. Swift’s presentation was a part of the seminar’s litigation workshop for attendees. This annual seminar is a multi-day event focusing on trucking litigation for defense counsel, experts, and industry vendors.

Joe Swift Mock Trial Presentation
May 23, 2014 – St. Louis principal Joe Swift participated in a mock trial presentation before the Association of Equipment Manufacturers. The “trial,” a strict product liability claim, was based on an actual case and included a judge, a badly burned plaintiff, a grieving widow, and expert witnesses. The 170 AEM meeting attendees served as the “jury” and were polled throughout the trial by live interactive texting.
