$1-Million Settlement in Knife Attack Case

June 29, 2026

Brown & James Principal Justin Hardin obtained a $1-million settlement for a property manager in a knife attack case. The property manager was employed at an apartment building in downtown St. Louis when a tenant called security asking that a former guest not be allowed to enter the premises, and she was in fear for her life. The guard asked the property manager what to do, and she instructed him to call the police, which he did not do. The guest gained entrance to the building and was initially restrained by the guard, but could not keep her restrained because he left his handcuffs at the security desk. The guest attacked him with a knife, and he ran away. The woman then began attacking the property manager, and she was cut several times on her face. Two bystanders had to save her from the attack. She sustained deep cuts and will be scarred for life. Citizen’s Guard Security settled for policy limits.
